Shannon joined the Liv Like Gia Foundation in 2023 and is a member of the Foundation's Scholarship Committee.
Shannon's healthcare journey began as a paramedic/firefighter with the Alachua County Fire Rescue, where she served as a Rescue Lieutenant. For six years, she honed her skills in the high-stakes field of emergency rescue, responding to crises and providing critical care when it mattered most.
Following her stint with the fire department, Shannon returned to school to pursue a degree in nursing. Upon graduation, she joined the University of Florida Health Shands Hospital as a member of the Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (PCICU) team. There, she worked alongside some of the finest surgeons in the nation, caring for children awaiting life-saving heart transplants and for those who had already received this remarkable gift. For nearly two years, the PCICU became her second home, a place where she witnessed both the fragility and resilience of young lives. This experience solidified her belief that being a pediatric nurse is not just a profession; it's a vocation that demands both medical expertise and boundless empathy.
Life eventually led her family to South Florida, where she transitioned to a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). In this new role, she continued to meet and care for extraordinary children, each with their unique challenges and victories. Over the years, she has attended countless birthdays, graduations, and celebrations of the young patients she has had the honor to care for. These moments have reaffirmed her commitment to providing exceptional care to the youngest and most vulnerable members of our community.
Shannon holds an Associate's Degree in Emergency Services and a Bachelor's degree in Nursing Science. She is also a Florida Certified Firefighter and Florida Certified Paramedic.
